Frequently asked questions

Most business tax records must be kept for at least 5 years after they are prepared or obtained, or after the transaction is completed, whichever is later. Some records need to be kept longer. Companies generally must keep financial records for 7 years after the transactions are completed, and employers must generally keep prescribed employee time and wages records for 7 years. Tax records must be in English or easy to convert to English, and employee time and wages records must be in English. Separate WorkCover record-keeping requirements may also apply.

Yes. Digital records are fine if they accurately record and explain your transactions, stay readable for the whole retention period and can be given to the ATO in English. Protect them from unauthorised changes or loss, keep the supporting documents and keep backups.

No. We work with Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB, and we’ll help you choose what suits your business.

Yes. We can bring your books up to date and, once you’ve authorised us and the information we need is available, prepare and lodge overdue BAS within our agreed scope. New business clients start with a Clarity Check: $500 + GST ($550 incl. GST). If you go ahead within 60 days, the full fee comes off the catch-up work.

We recommend updating your books at least monthly, more often where payroll or reporting deadlines need it, and before each BAS. Bank feeds and rules help, but transactions still need checking.
