Last updated: 15 October 2026

Angkor CA Pty Ltd (ABN 27 627 879 163), trading as Angkor CA, is a registered tax agent (registration number 25892404). This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles, and the Privacy (Tax File Number) Rule 2015.

The information we collect

Depending on the services we provide, we may collect:

  • names, contact details, dates of birth and addresses
  • identification documents, such as driver’s licences and passports, and the results of identity checks
  • tax file numbers
  • financial, tax and business information, such as income, expenses, bank statements, investments, payroll and business records
  • information about your family members, business partners, employees and related entities, where it relates to our services
  • details of your dealings with the ATO, ASIC and other government agencies
  • information you give us through our website, emails, forms and meetings.

Some of this may be sensitive information, such as health information, or union or political party memberships shown in deduction claims. We only collect sensitive information with your consent, or where the law requires or allows it.

How we collect it

We collect personal information from you directly: through our secure online portals and forms, by email, by phone and in meetings. With your permission, we also collect information from the ATO and other government agencies, your bank or accounting software, your previous accountant and other people you nominate. We also use public registers, such as ABN Lookup and the ASIC registers.

You can make general enquiries without telling us who you are. Before we can act for you, we need to know who you are and verify your identity.

Why we collect it and how we use it

We collect, use and disclose personal information to:

  • provide our accounting, tax and advisory services
  • meet our legal and professional obligations, including under the tax laws, the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006
  • verify your identity
  • manage our relationship with you, including billing
  • send you newsletters and updates, if you have subscribed.

If you don’t give us the information we need, we may not be able to act for you.

Tax file numbers

We only collect, use and disclose tax file numbers for purposes the law allows, such as preparing and lodging tax returns, and we handle them in line with the Privacy (Tax File Number) Rule 2015.

Who we share it with

We may disclose personal information to:

  • the ATO, ASIC, AUSTRAC and other government agencies, as our services need or as the law requires
  • service providers that help us deliver our services, such as cloud software, document management, electronic signing and identity verification providers, and other providers who support our work
  • other professionals, such as lawyers, financial advisers, mortgage brokers or SMSF auditors, with your permission
  • professional bodies, for quality reviews of our work
  • anyone else you authorise, or as the law requires or allows.

Our service providers may only use your information to provide services to us, and must keep it confidential. We remain responsible for how they handle it.

We do not sell or trade personal information. The law may prevent us from telling you when we have reported a matter to AUSTRAC.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers are located overseas or store information overseas. We are likely to disclose personal information to recipients in Vietnam, the United States and the European Union. Before we use a provider, we check its security and confidentiality arrangements. If we start using providers in other countries, we will update this policy.

AI tools

We use business versions of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including AI features built into our software, to help with tasks such as drafting, summarising documents and analysing information. We only use AI tools under terms that keep your information confidential and don’t allow it to be used to train AI models. A member of our team reviews AI-assisted work before we rely on it or send it to you.

Automated decisions

We don’t make decisions about you using computer programs alone. Some tools help our team decide whether we can act for you:

  • Identity checks: when you become a client, an electronic identity verification service checks your name, date of birth, address and identity document details against official records. Some checks also ask you to take a photo of yourself, which is compared with the photo on your identity document. This uses biometric information, so we ask for your consent first.
  • Screening: where anti-money laundering law requires, we check whether you are a politically exposed person or named on a sanctions list.

If a check raises an issue, a member of our team reviews it and may ask you for more information before any decision is made. Our AI tools don’t make decisions about you or your tax affairs.

How we store and protect it

We store personal information in secure cloud systems, protected by access controls and multi-factor authentication. Only people who need it for their work can access it. We keep client records for at least 7 years, or longer if the law requires, and then securely destroy or de-identify them.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you by contacting our Privacy Officer. There is no charge to make a request. We will respond within 30 days. If we can’t give you access or make a correction, we will tell you why in writing, for example where giving access would be unlawful.

Data breaches

If a data breach is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

Privacy complaints

If you’re concerned about how we have handled your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer in writing. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

These tools may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you visit. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may not work properly.
