Tax planning that looks ahead
Tax planning works best before your financial year ends, while there is still time to act. We help business owners, investors and families estimate their tax, understand their options and make decisions within the law.
Our tax planning is limited to tax advice: we don’t recommend investments, financial products, contribution amounts or when to start a super pension.
Is this you?
Your tax bill was bigger than you expected.
Your profit has grown and you’re not sure what that means for tax.
You’re planning to sell an asset, buy equipment or change your business.
What we do
- Estimate your tax before your financial year ends, with “what if” scenarios
- Timing of income and deductions
- Capital gains tax (CGT) estimates before you sell an asset
- Tax planning for private company dividends and family trust distributions
- Super contribution caps and the tax effect of contributions
- PAYG instalment reviews
- Records that support your claims if the ATO asks
Annual tax planning is included in our All You Need Small and Medium packages, and available as an upgrade on All You Need Micro. Tax planning on its own starts from $2,200 + GST ($2,420 incl. GST). We agree the scope and fee with you in writing before work starts.
How it works
1
Book a planning meeting
Ideally a few months before your financial year ends, or before any big decision.
2
We estimate your position
We use your figures so far and what you expect before year end.
3
We show your options
Each option comes with its likely tax effect, any risks and what you need to do.
4
You decide, we follow up
We follow up on the agreed actions and, where we’re engaged to, report the tax treatment in the relevant return.
Fresh Eyes Review
Not sure your last tax return was right?
Get a second opinion with a Fresh Eyes Review. We review your tax return or BAS, explain what we find and what your options are. From $495 incl. GST.

Frequently asked questions
When should I do tax planning?
Before your financial year ends, ideally a few months before, so there is time to act. If you are about to sell an asset or start a business, talk to us before you sign anything.
Is tax planning legal?
Yes. Legitimate tax planning uses the deductions, concessions and choices the law allows, while meeting their conditions. We don’t recommend tax evasion or arrangements that misuse the tax laws. Anti-avoidance rules can deny tax benefits and lead to extra tax and penalties.
How much can I put into super and claim a deduction?
The concessional contributions cap is $30,000 for 2025-26 and $32,500 for 2026-27. Employer contributions, salary sacrifice and personal contributions you claim as a deduction generally all count towards the same cap, across all your funds. If your total super balance was under $500,000 at the previous 30 June, you may be able to use unused cap amounts from up to 5 earlier years. To claim a deduction for a personal contribution, you must meet the eligibility rules, give your fund a valid notice by the earlier of lodging your tax return or the end of the following income year, and receive its acknowledgement before you claim. We check your available cap and the requirements for you.
When do family trust distributions need to be decided?
Trustees generally need to make their resolution by 30 June, or earlier if the trust deed says so. We help you plan the distribution before then.
I’m selling a property or business asset. When should I talk to you?
Talk to us before you enter into the contract. For an ordinary sale of a CGT asset, the timing of the capital gain generally follows when the contract is entered into, not settlement, so planning early gives you more options.
